2 penny Book Report: Set in WWII Germany and narrated by Death himself, Zusak’s The Book Thief is as devastating as you would imagine it to be, but it is equal parts touching, imaginative, and alive. Liesel Meminger’s story begins with her delivery at the home of her new foster parents in the small town of Molching, outside Munich. At age 9, she has lost her little brother (en route to Molching) and, for reasons mysterious to her, has been given up by her mother into the hands of foster parents. Thus begins a story of friendship, soccer, stealing, sacrifice, loss, and deep compassion and love. Highly recommend.
